The Durcan-Smiths’ visit Love2Stay, Shrewsbury.
Love to Stay Review
We arrived at Love to Stay Shrewsbury just after the check in time of 12pm and we were quickly booked in and shown on a map where our pitch was, we had taken advantage of the choose your own pitch when booking in order to be near the toilet block. The whole site runs on a one way system and a 5mph speed limit and we never saw anyone break either rule in the 4 days we were there. Every member of staff was friendly, polite and always willing to help. The staff that ran the activities were knowable and engaging with the children. All the activities we saw or took part in were well supervised and there was always at least one or two members of staff on reception for any queries.
All 120 pitches are super pitches with individual electric, water and waste hook ups and they are very generously sized. We had enough room for the caravan, awning and car side by side with plenty of room at the front and side for the children to play. We saw large twin axle caravans, caravans with two cars, motorhomes with cars and Winnebago’s all with plenty of room to spare.
The facilities were amazing; the toilet blocks all had plenty of toilets, showers and sinks and were immaculately clean no matter the time of day. There were Dyson hairdryers, baby baths and baby changing areas. There are also private family bathrooms to hire but thanks to Love to Stay having a baby bath and changing area in the male and female toilets (not common on most sites we’ve visited and made our lives so much easier) we didn’t feel the need as we could easily manage shower time with the three children between us.
There was also a large laundrette area, a dishwashing area with plenty of sinks and drying stations, a brilliant Chemical Toilet Disposal point and a dog washing station (our girls were very disappointed we didn’t need to use this), there was also a machine to clean your toilet cassette and a drive over motorhome point.
On arrival we were given a voucher for a discounted meal in the pizzeria on site. You got two pizzas, two drinks and two ice-creams for £20, we ordered kids meals for the children for £5 each including a drink and struggled to finish what arrived as it was so generous. The children loved watching the chef prepare our pizzas and cook them in the stone oven. They put all our left overs in a takeaway box for us and we enjoyed them later on. On other days we also sampled a variety of their homemade cakes and their traditional ice-cream all of which were very tasty and reasonably priced for the portion sizes. There was an extensive lunch menu also and all the food we saw looked lovely as it came past us. The café was also dog friendly which was great as the dog walking area was nearby and we could stop for a drink afterwards with our dog. The dog walking area was all enclosed with lots of different trees and areas for dogs to explore, there was always a bowl of fresh water in the dog walking area and at the café and there were dog waste bins throughout the site.
The children’s play area was brilliant, lots for them to explore and the create your own den area was great for bigger children. The barefoot sensory walk was brilliant fun and the taps etc. meant there was no muddy feet traipsing back into the caravan after. I watched children of all ages manage to have a great time in the play area as it was so accessible to all. The natural swimming pool looked lovely but was a bit too chilly for a swim even with the hot tubs for afterwards however the children’s paddling pool is kept lukewarm so we spent a lovely afternoon in the sandpit and paddling pool. There are changing rooms right next to it so no trying to get wet children in towels back up to the caravans. There was also plenty of seating near the play area and paddling pool so mums and dads can have a rest and watch the children play.
There was an extensive range of activities on each day, suitable for a variety of ages and at different budgets. All could be booked at reception in advance or on the day. We took part in fire building, ice skating and the movie tent. The campfire building activity managed to engage children of all ages at the same time which was great and parents of older children could leave them and enjoy a cup of tea while they waited. The movie tent was brilliant and each ticket included popcorn, there were 2/3 different films on each day and the seating and blankets meant it felt like a real experience. We stayed 4 days and could have been there 7 and not tried all the activities. There is an onsite gym and spa as well as yoga and Pilates classes for adults with more free time than us.
