British and India Museum

The museum was opened in 1972 by Henry Nelson. Often people say something is unique when really it's marketing hype, this place is truly unique! On show is a huge variety of items: swords, kukris, commemorative boxes and plates, models carved in ivory, photographs, paintings, Indian army cap badges and buttons, a large collection of Indian regimental neckties, as well as a tiger skin which was shot in the Sauger area, Central India in 1915. There are model soldiers of Indian regiments, models of Indian types such as basket makers, bearers, foot vendors, water carriers, snake charmers and many others, brassware, items relating to the Delhi Durbars of 1903 and 1911, plus a whole host of other items too numerous to mention. Open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm, except for Bank Holidays & Weekends. Admission is £2.50 for adults and £1.00 for children. Concessions are also £1.00.
